What we do

Bedundo is keen to help all West Australian rural shires and cities with our on-site (at the mattress pile) segregation process.

We ensure our hands on approach is effective, quiet, clean with a paramount fire safety attitude. Offering better environmental and sustainable benefits.

We separate the spring steel, timber, coco fibre from the fabric materials. Foam and other layered material can be put aside on request for recycling.

Services we provide

We work on-site at the mattress pile, carefully separating steel springs, wood, and fabric. Some shires have asked us to further sort specific foam and matted materials, with coco fiber being particularly sought after for its many uses. This creates a great opportunity to supply valuable recycling stock for the Tip Shop."

Steel spring recovery

Steel springs mattresses posed a major problem when buried.

Loader drivers have told us stories about the destruction to machinery and safety concerns contributed with burring the mattress's

Reclaimed spring steel is worth about $200 a tonne about 120 mattress.

A sustainable way for waste facilities to reduce landfill hazards and sell the steel to recover some costs.

Timber recovery

Working in plain sight at the waste facility, the head-turning locals drive by on their way to dispose of their waste. It didn’t take long before we were approached by locals interested in the bed base timber frames. A member of the Men's Shed said timber is hard to find these days and is too good for chipping or landfill. They now collect the timber

Reducing waste

We are actively seeking new recycling opportunities to help reduce the amount of quality fabric materials and foam going to landfill. We work with Tip Shop operators and post on local social media, sharing what we recover, what’s available for recycling, and when we’ll be coming.

Helping comunity sleep better

Some mattress are new and still rapped in plastic. When we come across these we often find out there from local bed stores ridding of old stock or unclaimed orders. We have stores now contact us before they go to waste facilities. Creating way's to support community

Australian Bedding Stewardship Council (ABSC) Approved Recycler

The ABSC Scheme is a voluntary, industry-led product stewardship scheme backed by the Federal Government and with ACCC authorisation. It aims to reduce waste generation and improve recovery of bedding products, in particular, end-of-life mattresses.

The ABSC works in partnership with Australian bedding industry manufacturers, importers, retailers, supply chain, industry partners and all levels of government to transition to circular economy practices.

As a key priority, the ABSC also works with a growing network of recyclers, approved by the ABSC for their ethical and responsible business practices.

Nannup

We recently helped Nannup Waste Facility and disassemble 75 mattresses for them. They store their discarded mattresses in a 40-foot sea container. This was our first time working out of one, and it provided us with many benefits. We believe this is the perfect way to store mattresses, as they are kept dry, preventing mould, which makes it safer for our staff. We were also able to recover more fabric material for a second life.
